Stroke Rehabilitation Hospital in Bangalore
SENSE Health is a rehabilitation hospital for people recovering from stroke, admitting patients directly from acute hospital care, including critically ill patients: intensive inpatient rehabilitation with a 24/7 emergency response team of on-site doctors and tele-ICU intensivists, OPD therapy, and home physiotherapy across Bengaluru. Care is led by a consultant physiatrist with a neurologist, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and swallow therapists (who work in Kannada), nurses and caregivers.
You see in writing what your stay includes before you decide, you meet the team at a free consultation, and therapy starts on admission.
Who We Admit
Families usually come to us straight after discharge from the acute hospital, when the person still needs help to sit, stand, walk, eat or speak. We also admit people whose recovery has stalled months after a stroke.
What Good Stroke Rehabilitation Looks Like
Recovery after stroke depends on intensity, timing and the right mix of therapies. The UK's NICE guideline recommends offering stroke rehabilitation for at least 3 hours a day on at least 5 days a week to people who can take part, across physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy (NICE NG236, 2023). The 2026 American Heart Association/American Stroke Association guideline recommends inpatient rehabilitation facilities over nursing-home-level care for people who qualify (Richards et al., Stroke, 2026). Timing matters too: the AVERT trial showed that very early, high-dose mobilisation within 24 hours of stroke did not improve outcomes, so rehabilitation should start within days, once the person is stable (AVERT, Lancet, 2015).
At SENSE Health, every inpatient has daily physiotherapy and gait training, with occupational therapy, speech and swallow therapy (available in Kannada), robotic gait training and other technology added according to the plan agreed at assessment. Technology is used as an adjunct to hands-on therapy, not a replacement for it.
What an Inpatient Stay Includes
Before admission, we go through a written package sheet with you that lists what is included, what is charged separately and the payment terms. You sign it only once it has been explained. Inpatient packages are available in twin-sharing or single rooms; our team recommends one based on how much help the person needs, their medical stability and their goals.
Included in both packages
- Bed, attender stay and patient meals (diet plan included)
- Duty doctor consultation, 24/7 nursing and 24/7 caregivers
- Respiratory therapy (RT care), PEG-tube and catheter care
- Daily physiotherapy (one session a day in Essential, two in Advanced)
- Gait training: manual, parallel bars, tilt table and body-weight-support (unweighing) system
- Electrotherapy: TENS, NMES, IFT and therapeutic ultrasound
- Strength training, manual therapy and chest physiotherapy

Advanced package adds

- ICU/HDU care, ICU doctors, ventilator and oxygen support, cardiac monitor, infusion and DVT pumps

Frequently Asked Questions
When should stroke rehabilitation start?
As soon as the person is medically stable, usually within days of the stroke, in agreement with the treating hospital. The AVERT trial found that very early, high-dose mobilisation within 24 hours was not better than usual care, so "early" means days, not hours. Most recovery happens in the first three to six months, and structured therapy continues to help after that.
How many hours of therapy will my family member get each day?
Both inpatient packages include daily physiotherapy: one session a day in the Essential package and two in the Advanced package, alongside gait training, electrotherapy, chest physiotherapy and hand therapy. Occupational therapy is part of the Advanced package, and speech and swallow therapy is arranged per session when needed. The exact schedule is set at your assessment and written into the plan.
Can you admit a stroke patient who is on a feeding tube or needs oxygen?
Yes. Respiratory therapy, PEG-tube and catheter care are included in both packages, and swallow therapy works towards safe oral feeding. Oxygen, cardiac monitoring, ICU/HDU care and ventilator support are available when clinically needed and are charged separately, which is listed on the package sheet before admission. Inpatients have 24/7 doctors and an emergency response team.
What does inpatient stroke rehabilitation cost at SENSE Health?
Costs depend on the room type, the package and the length of stay, so we do not publish a price list. At your free consultation you receive a written package sheet showing what is included and what is charged separately, and you sign it before admission. Our admissions team checks your insurance policy and helps with pre-authorisation.
Do you treat stroke patients who had their stroke months or years ago?
Yes. Recovery is fastest in the first months, but published trials show gains from physiotherapy, constraint-induced movement therapy and robotic therapy well beyond six months. A free assessment looks at what has plateaued and what can still be worked on.
Do you offer stroke rehabilitation at home or as an outpatient?
Yes. SENSE Health offers inpatient rehabilitation at Kalyan Nagar, OPD therapy, and home physiotherapy, nursing and rehabilitation support across Bengaluru. Many families start with an inpatient stay and continue with home visits. Read our guide to choosing between home physiotherapy and inpatient rehabilitation.
