24/7 Emergency Response Team, Led by Doctors and Intensivists

At SENSE Health, every inpatient has a doctor in the building around the clock. Our on-site doctors are trained in emergency management and have ICU experience, and they are backed by Cloudphysician's intensivists through 24/7 remote tele-ICU. If a patient's condition changes at 2 AM, the response starts at the bedside, with critical-care specialists on the line.

It is what makes it possible to begin rehabilitation soon after an ICU stay, when patients are recovering but still fragile.

For a new emergency at home, such as stroke signs, chest pain, breathlessness, a seizure or a serious fall, call 108 or 112 and go to the nearest hospital emergency department. SENSE Health is a rehabilitation hospital; our emergency response team looks after patients already admitted with us.

Why Rehabilitation Patients Need Emergency Cover

Rehabilitation often begins while a person is still medically fragile: days after leaving the ICU, after a stroke or brain injury, after major surgery, or while still on oxygen or a feeding tube. In those weeks, blood pressure and sugar can swing, chest infections and blood clots can develop, swallowing can go wrong, and seizures or falls can happen, often at night. Our guide to life after the ICU explains why the first weeks are the riskiest.

Many rehabilitation centres are therapy-led, with a doctor on call rather than on site. When something changes, the usual answer is an ambulance to another hospital. At SENSE Health the first response happens where the patient already is.

Questions to Ask Any Rehabilitation Centre

Whichever centre you choose, ask these before admission. They are the questions our own team answers at every consultation.

?Is a doctor physically on site at night, or only on call?
?What emergency training and ICU experience do the doctors have?
?Who makes critical-care decisions at 2 AM, and how quickly can they see the patient?
?Which equipment is available on site: oxygen, monitors, ventilator, ICU/HDU beds?
?Where would my family member be transferred if needed, and who arranges it?
?How and when will the family be told if something changes?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a doctor at SENSE Health at night?

Yes. A doctor is on site 24 hours a day, every day, for our inpatients. Our on-site doctors are trained in emergency management and have ICU experience, and they are backed by Cloudphysician's intensivists, who are available 24/7 through remote tele-ICU for patients who need critical-care input.

What is tele-ICU, and how does it help a rehabilitation patient?

Tele-ICU connects the bedside to intensivists (critical-care specialists) at Cloudphysician through live video, vital signs and records. For a medically fragile patient in rehabilitation, it means an intensivist can review a change in condition with our on-site doctor at any hour, without the patient having to be moved first.

Is it safe to move my family member from the ICU to SENSE Health?

It can be, once the treating ICU team agrees the person is stable enough to leave intensive care. SENSE Health provides step-down care with 24/7 on-site doctors, intensivist support through tele-ICU, Smart ICU video and vitals monitoring, 24/7 nursing, and oxygen, cardiac monitoring, ICU/HDU care and ventilator support when clinically needed. Call us while your family member is still in the ICU so the move can be planned.

What happens if a patient needs care SENSE Health cannot provide on site?

Some emergencies need a full acute hospital, for example emergency surgery or a cardiac catheterisation laboratory. In that case our doctors stabilise the patient, arrange the transfer and keep the family informed throughout.

Should I bring someone to SENSE Health in an emergency at home?

No. SENSE Health is a rehabilitation hospital, not an emergency department. For a new emergency at home, such as signs of stroke, chest pain, breathlessness, a seizure or a serious fall, call 108 or 112 and go to the nearest hospital emergency department. Our emergency response team looks after patients already admitted with us.

Are oxygen, monitoring and ICU care included in the inpatient package?

Doctor consultation, 24/7 nursing and caregivers are included in every inpatient package. Oxygen, cardiac monitoring, infusion and DVT pumps, ICU/HDU care, ICU doctors and ventilator support are provided when clinically needed and charged separately; they are listed on the written package sheet you sign before admission.
