His story

Bhagyamma and her husband came to Bengaluru from Gundlupete. A farmer, he had a stroke while working in his fields and afterwards was fed through a tube and needed help with everything.

One month into rehabilitation at SENSE Health, the feeding tube is out and he eats by mouth again, lifts his left hand to drink, and can sit up.

Swallowing after a stroke is assessed before oral feeding is advanced, because food or fluid can enter the airway without an obvious cough. His progress came from swallow therapy and daily physiotherapy alongside nursing care, with his wife beside him throughout.

“They look after him just like a child… The hospital feels like home.”— Bhagyamma, his wife
